Andrews began studying painting and fine art at an early age and showed in his first juried exhibition at the age of thirteen. Andrews however did not follow his muse to paint professionally until recently. Andrews is now painting ferverently -- translating his life experiences from working and living around the world including most recently Japan into a new body of work that is the evolution of his unique vision, creative depth and multi-cultural savvy. His current work is a journey of self-exploration in style and method of painting that is breaking the boundaries of his past work. ARTIST's STATEMENT There are many influences that are contributing to my work as an artist -- contemporaries that I went to college with, my vivid memories and cultural heritage of growing up on a 161 year-old working cattle ranch in Texas, living and travelling in over 30 Painting has become a rich cathartic exercise in self-discovery and healing of my soul after the sudden loss of both parents in a very short period of time and several other life-changing events in the past few years. I'm thankful for those who have encouraged me to commune with my muse again and conquer my fears that I lacked the adequate level of skill and talent to create works of lasting value and meaning. Through daily time in the studio along with my ongoing career in the IT industry, I'm finding the ability to learn more about myself and to express that "self" visually in ways I dared not dream I was capable. My goal as an artist is not about commercial success, but to be recognized as working artist that is continually growing in his ability to create works of that "speak" to the viewer and communicate the rich life experience of my nearly five decades and more importantly to become "curious about myself." This journey promises to be the longest journey in my life, as Dag Hammarskjold wrote -- "the longest journey is the journey inward." |
